Mariah Siju, a second-year law student at the University of Leeds, comes from a unique cultural background—she’s from India, born and raised in the Middle East, and currently studying in the UK. Her passion for travel and law led her to an exciting foreign legal internship through CRCC Asia in Vietnam in Summer 2024. During her internship, Mariah honed her skills in drafting and reviewing legal documents, researching Vietnamese law, and building lasting connections with colleagues over delicious local cuisine. She’s thrilled with her decision and highly recommends the experience to others!
Here’s her story in her own words:
1. Please introduce yourself and tell us a bit about your background.
My name is Mariah Siju. I come from a diverse background- I am from India, was born and raised in the Middle East and I am currently studying in the UK! I am a second year law student at the University of Leeds.
2. What motivated you to join the CRCC Asia program in Ho Chi Minh City?
I was looking for an internship experience to boost my as well as improve my skill set! I came across the CRCC Asia Program through a newsletter from my university and decided to apply for it as an internship abroad is a valuable experience and it fueled my passion for traveling!
3. Please give us some snippets of your internship tasks- What were the skills you learned and applied?
My role as a foreign legal intern was to support the legal team, which I did in 3 major ways. The internship tasks I was assigned included drafting and reviewing legal documents as well as researching different areas of Vietnamese law.
4. What were your favorite experiences outside of work?
Having lunch with my colleagues everyday was a highlight of my internship experience! I tried different types of Vietnamese foods along with them as well as learned more about Vietnamese culture, trends, etc.
