Nature at its Finest

Vietnam is eye-wateringly beautiful. As with most long coastal countries, Vietnam is blessed with almost every single terrain. It has beaches, deserts, forests, lakes, and major metropolitan areas. If you’re after an amazing outdoor experience then Vietnam can cater to your every expectation:

Mekong Delta

The Mekong Delta is a network of distributaries in Southwest Vietnam. The water begins flowing in the Himalayas, flows through Myanmar and China before reaching Vietnam, which is the reasoning behind its murky waters. You can take a guided boat ride through the region’s famous greenery to reach the area’s famous floating markets and pagodas. The whole region is home to a diverse ecosystem which makes it one of Vietnam’s must-experience adventures.

Con Dao Islands

Just off the South coast you will be able to find the Con Dao Islands – a mostly uninhabited set of islands famous for their greenery and natural beaches. The islands are a visual delight which remain unspoilt, so much so that turtles and dolphins can regularly be seen from the coastline. The main island, Con Son, is home to the Con Dao National Park which is blessed with greenery, hills, and forest land. In the past, Con Son was used as a prison, with many detainees confined in the infamous ‘tiger cages’. The prison, last used since the 1960s, is now a museum and cultural landmark.

Mui ne

Mui Ne is home to Vietnam’s red and white sand dunes. It’s a hikers paradise, with the dunes stretching 10km, giving you plenty of sand to cover. Alternatively, if you’d rather experience driving across the landscape, ATVs can be rented and provide a different experience.

Vietnam was under French colonial rule from 1887-1954, the country was known as Indochina during this time. Due to this, Vietnamese culture has strong western influence, which makes it easier for some expats to settle into the country.

French architecture is incredibly prevalent in Ho Chi Minh City with Notre Dame Cathedral of Saigon and it’s post office designed by renowned French architect Alfred Foulhoux. Also, French influence in food can be easily spotted with Banh Mi baguettes, every type of coffee imaginable, and snails being regularly consumed.

Ho Chi Minh City has something for everyone. Reunification Palace, the Notre Dame Cathedral of Saigon, and the American War Museum are a must-see for all culture vultures. Foodies will be engrossed by Vietnam’s ticking cafe scene and coffee obsession. While anyone seeking rest and relaxation will be pleased to hear the city is only a short drive away from the beach.

"My internship 100% affected everything – I am doing my dissertation on the luxury market in China. I gained a huge insight working at Christie’s with my primary research being aided by my colleagues from there. If I hadn’t done this internship, I would know which direction to be heading in. I worked at Christie’s Auction House and was directly involved in all aspects of the one of their biannual auctions. Work tasks included implementation of the auction, PR, advertising and being knowledgeable about the works of art, their expected value and the price they actually sold for.”
