In Osaka, the culinary capital, explore the bustling streets of Dotonbori under the iconic Glico sign while savoring local specialties. Participate in a hands-on cooking class and visit the Cup Noodles Museum—the birthplace of instant ramen—to uncover the origins and global impact of this beloved dish.

In Kyoto, step into tradition with a serene tea ceremony while dressed in a kimono, followed by a Zen monk’s meal at Shigetsu Restaurant in the UNESCO-listed Tenryuji Temple. Discover the centuries-old brewing techniques at Fushimi Sake District, where you’ll learn about sake’s historical significance and its role in Japanese culture. 

In Tokyo, ride the Shinkansen while enjoying an ekiben bento box, then dive into the future at the high-tech Robot Restaurant. Master Edo-period cuisine in a special workshop, explore the vibrant streets of Harajuku on a kawaii food tour, and learn about the evolution of Japan’s modern food culture. You’ll also experience the beauty of Japanese tea culture through a Tea-Leaf Picking + Matcha Experience and tea brewing/blending class at Miyanoem, an idyllic tea plantation in rural Japan. Uncover the deep-rooted history of essential ingredients in Japanese cooking, Kikkoman Soy Sauce Factory, tying together the country’s past and present food traditions.

Throughout this journey, you will explore the rich history of Japanese cuisine—from the origins of ramen to the sacred Zen meals. You will trace the evolution of sake brewing, experience Edo-period culinary techniques, and witness the shift to modern food trends

For countries that do not benefit from visa exemption, you might need to apply for a visa. Please contact your local Japanese Embassy/Consulate-General for more information on the visa type that applies to you, as well as the application process. The cost of your visa is not included in the Program Fee.  It is recommended you submit the visa application at least 4 weeks prior to your Program Start Date. Immigration regulations are constantly changing so it is advised you pay attention to updates on the aforementioned list.
